GEORGE H. KIDDER is currently of counsel to Hemenway & Barnes.  He became a partner in January, 1956.  While his practice was of a general nature in the early years, Mr. Kidder has concentrated principally on trust and estate matters for the last 20 years.  He is counsel for a number of nonprofit organizations and serves as a co-fiduciary with State Street Corporation, Fiduciary Trust Company, and other private trust offices.

Mr. Kidder served as a director of State Street Bank and Trust Company and State Street Boston Corporation from 1971 through 1994.  In that time, he chaired State Street's Executive Committee, Examining and Audit Committee, Finance Committee, Personnel Committee, and Nominating Committee.  Mr. Kidder is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and a former Regent and a member of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law, and the American Law Institute.  He served for many years as a director of the Boston Legal Aid Society and Greater Boston Legal Services.

For most of his career, Mr. Kidder has been actively involved in the leadership of many schools and colleges, serving as a trustee and President of the Fenn School, St. Mark's School, Concord Academy, and Episcopal Divinity School.  He served also as a Trustee of Wellesley College.  Mr. Kidder was president and chief executive officer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1987 through 1994 and a trustee since 1977.  He continues as a Life Trustee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  He became chairman of Children's Hospital and Children's Medical Center for five years beginning in January of 1992, having been a trustee of Children's since 1982.  He also served as chairman of the Controlled Risk Insurance Company, Ltd. which provides liability and malpractice insurance and risk management services for Harvard University's teaching hospitals, as well as for other medical organizations in Greater Boston.

Mr. Kidder has served as Chancellor to the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and its Bishops and is now Chancellor Emeritus.  He served as Chairman of the Executive Council of the Harvard Medical School Division of Sleep Medicine.  He was a Vice Chairman and is now a trustee emeritus of WGBH Educational Foundation, Boston's Channel 2.

Mr. Kidder attended Williams College in the V-12 Program and the engineering school of Tufts University in the Naval ROTC program during World War II.  He joined the firm following his graduation from Harvard Law School in 1950.
