KURT F. SOMERVILLE

KURT F. SOMERVILLE joined Hemenway & Barnes after his graduation from law school and became a partner in 1992.  Mr. Somerville advises families and individuals in the areas of wealth management, estate, financial and tax planning, and in probate matters.  He currently heads the Firm’s Trust Department and has an active practice serving as a professional fiduciary.  As a lawyer and trustee, Mr. Somerville advises high net worth clients on a variety of issues and concerns related to preserving, enhancing and transferring family wealth.  His clients include multiple generations of families who look to Mr. Somerville for guidance on a range of personal as well as legal issues.

Mr. Somerville has participated as a faculty member and has written course handbooks for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., the American Law Institute - American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the National Business Institute, the Boston Estate Planning Council, and Homeowner Options for Massachusetts Elders.

Mr. Somerville is a former Olympic oarsman and serves as a trustee of Community Rowing, Inc., Boston's largest public access rowing program, and as a director of the CRASH-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships. He has served as a long time trustee and volunteer for the Noble & Greenough School, from which he graduated in 1975, and as an overseer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston.

He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1979 (cum laude) and from Boston College Law School in 1983 (cum laude), where he was Executive Editor of the Boston College International & Comparative Law Review.
