Thank you for your interest in the CHT Foundation. The Foundation was established in 2005 by the family of William O. Taylor of Boston, former publisher of The Boston Globe, and his wife, Sally P. Coxe, a native of Philadelphia.

Mission

CHT Foundation has three main areas of interest: education, the environment, and projects that enhance historic preservation. The grants are confined to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  1. Education: The focus will be on the support of programs for pre-school through elementary school age children, with an emphasis on early learning, literacy, civics and the teaching of history.
  2. The Environment: A particular focus is on protecting the Commonwealth’s waterways and the quality of its water generally, with special emphasis on Boston Harbor, the Charles River, the South Coast, Buzzards Bay, and the Elizabeth Islands.
  3. History: Of special interest to the Trustees is the history of Boston’s recent immigrants, and their contribution to medicine, education and the environment. The Foundation is also interested in the history of New Bedford and its environs, and in New Bedford’s potential as a model for urban renewal.

Grants

CHT Foundation grants will range from $3,000 - $25,000. While there are no restrictions on grants for capital purposes or general operations, the Foundation prefers to fund project-specific requests. Multiple-year requests will be considered up to a maximum of three years.

Application Procedure

Your grant application must be received by end of business on May 1. In the case of a holiday or weekend, submissions are due the next business day. The Foundation does not accept facsimile submissions. Applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • A cover letter signed by the Executive Director or Board President;
  • The Cover Summary of the Associated Grant Makers (AGM) Common Proposal Form, available at www.agmconnect.org;
  • A short proposal (no more than four pages) detailing the organization and the request for funding;
  • A detailed project budget; and
  • A copy of the letter of determination from the Internal Revenue Service confirming the 501(c)(3) tax exempt status of your organization.

The Trustees will acknowledge receipt of the materials, and will contact the applicant if they have any questions or require further information. All applicants will be notified in early December if they have been awarded a grant from the CHT Foundation.
